Dian Cecht:
“The Physician”

Dian Cecht is a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann and is represented as a healer and doctor-like figure. The son of The Dagda, Dian Cecht is Lugh’s paternal grandfather. Translated from Old Irish, his name means “swift power”.

Dian Cecht was said to heal the injured by having them bathe in Slainge’s Well during the Second Battle of Mag Tuired. He would also grind medicinal herbs into remedies and chant spells over the well in order to heal the wounded.

When questioned on his healing abilities, Dian Cecht would brag that he could heal anyone except those who have been decapitated.
