In Celtic mythology, Lugh is one of the key gods in the Tuatha Dé Danann, and is represented as a warrior, a king, a master craftsman, and a saviour. Lugh is associated with a variety of skills; he is said to be the master of many domains, including art. The Celtic harvest festival Lughnasadh is named after him.
Lugh is the grandson of the vile Fomorian champion Balor, a one-eyed giant whose eye wreaks havoc when opened. During the Battle of Mag Tuired, Lugh handily slays Balor with his mighty spear.
Lugh owns a variety of magical items, including a hound named Failinis; Failinis is said to be invincible in battle, and can magically change any water it bathes in into wine. Failinis was said to hold dominion over all beasts, and hunts all manner of game and fish.
A skilled inventor, Lugh is said to have created the game Fidchell, a Celtic variant of chess.
