The Fomorians: Celtic Demons
“The Undersea Ones”
The Fomorians are a race of supernatural beings that come from under the sea. The sworn enemies of the Tuatha, they are a monstrous race of giants and demons. In the first cycle of Celtic mythology, the Fomorians represent chaos, death, and rebellion against the natural order of things.
In Irish mythology, the leader of the Fomorians is Balor, a giant with a destructive eye. When Balor was a child, he looked into a potion being brewed by his father’s druids; the potion’s fumes mutated his eye into a large, poison-spewing monstrosity. Balor is eventually killed by Lugh, his grandson and a member of the Tuatha.
